In the Near Future

The Posting of Student Essays - A section of the program will be set aside for posting student essays about local nineteenth century American history composed from primary source documents. For students living near Saratoga Springs, New York, Leeds, Minnesota, and Lincolnville, Maine, Albert Green's life in the pre-war and post-war period presents a possible area for investigation. If information about Albert Green cannot be found, an essay on life in these towns during the nineteenth century would be helpful to bring further understanding to the social context of Albert Green's life. What types of businesses existed? Was the area mostly farmland? What did people do for entertainment? Students residing near Cohoes, New York might consider looking at life in this mill town in the post-war period from about 1870 until 1905, the time when Alonzo Bump lived there.

An Animated Timeline of Civil War Events - Significant events between 1836 and 1862, the twenty-six years of Alonzo Bump's pre-war life, which led to the Civil War will be placed on a moving timeline.
